2017 Digital Principals of the Year Announced

Congratulations to the NASSP 2017 Digital Principals of the Year (DPOY): David Geurin of Bolivar High School in Bolivar, MO; Darren Ellwein of Harrisburg South Middle School in Harrisburg, SD; and Nicholas Indeglio of Downingtown Middle School in Downingtown, PA. The Digital Principals of the Year program honors principals who exhibit bold, creative leadership in their drive to harness the potential of new technologies to further learning goals.

As DPOYs, these honorees receive an expenses-paid (airfare, lodging, and registration) trip to present at the 2017 National Principals Conference July 9-11, 2017, in Philadelphia. They also gain access to the full McKinsey Management Program for School Leaders-a dynamic and highly interactive online leadership training program.

Students Make a World of Difference

The first-ever NASSP Student Leadership Initiative: Global Citizenship is underway! This two-year initiative brings NASSP and its student programs-National Honor Society (NHS), National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS), and National Association of Student Councils (NASC)-together to make a difference. This extraordinary effort has the potential to reach millions of students around the world, empowering them to step up and work together for the common good.

Participation is not limited to schools affiliated with NHS, NJHS, NEHS, or NASC; all schools can get involved by considering projects that make a difference. Share your projects on social media using #MakingGlobalChange. Visit www.makingglobalchange.org to learn more or pledge to participate.

Advocate for Principals, Schools, and Students

The 2017 NASSP Advocacy Conference will be here before you know it. Washington, D.C., is calling your name April 24-26 to advocate on behalf of the nation’s school principals. This conference will bring together state leaders and members of NASSP’s Federal Grassroots Network (FGN) to participate in panel discussions, networking, a day on Capitol Hill, and more. Having state leaders converge on Congress and speak in a unified voice delivers a powerful message to legislators that great school leaders are vital to the success of each student.

Membership in FGN is required in order to attend the conference. FGN membership is free, and joining the network will register you to receive advocacy updates via email. To learn more about the 2017 NASSP Advocacy Conference, visit www.nassp.org/advocacy-conference.
