Celebrating National Principals Month

This is National Principals Month! NASSP, together with the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the American Federation of School Administrators, has designated this month to honor you and the inspiring work you do to ensure that all students succeed. As part of the celebrations, NASSP will be working with the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate to introduce a resolution commemorating the month. During this month, we will also announce the 2018 NASSP National Principal of the Year, an award that recognizes an outstanding middle level or high school principal. Visit www.principalsmonth.org for more details.

Save the Date for the 2018 National Principals Conference

Working off the momentum of this year’s National Principals Conference, planning has begun for the 2018 NASSP conference, July 11–13, in Chicago. The 2017 conference saw more than 3,500 school leaders across the education continuum come together for three days of meaningful collaboration and connections that will empower their leadership for years to come. At NPC17, we witnessed the power of principals connecting across all levels, and NASSP aims to create the same transformational experience at NPC18. Check www.principalsconference.org for updates and details.

NHS Scholarship Program Opens Earlier

The National Honor Society (NHS) will open its respected national scholarship program on October 6, several weeks earlier than usual. This academic year, another record sum will be awarded, with $1.5 million being disbursed among 500 of the most exceptional NHS senior members. Any NHS senior in good standing is eligible to apply. All applicants will need to secure access to the application from their NHS chapter adviser. All advisers and principals will be notified by email when the application is made available. Applicants will also need three recommendations—one each from the adviser, the principal, and a teacher—to complete the application. The deadline to apply is January 30, 2018. Visit www.nhs.us/scholarship for more information. NHS is a program of NASSP.
